State Legislative Research Project

Lawyers for Good Government is compiling a database relating to legislation on specific topics by state. The goal of this project is to learn what attempts have been made to address various issues through legislation at the state level, what the salient points are within that legislation, and what opportunities may therefore exist to create meaningful change through action with state legislatures.

Participating attorneys will be researching state-level legislation that has been drafted or proposed during the last full legislative session in each state, whether passed or not, and answering a number of questions about it so that the approach of different states regarding different topics can be compared and synthesized by organizations that are part of Lawyers for Good Government’s coalition-based model of impact work.

In addition, attorneys will be asked to gather information about NGOs (Non-Governmental Organizations, often but not always non-profit organizations) working on the assigned issues and to prepare a summary report about the status of the issue in each assigned state.
