L4GG Applauds New Civil Rights Recommendations to the Federal Judiciary

According to the AP, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has recommended Myrna Perez, director of voting rights and election programs at NYU’s Brennan Center for Justice, for an appeals court position and Dale Ho, head of the ACLU’s Voting Rights Project, for a district court judgeship.

L4GG applauds these new potential nominees to the federal judiciary. As a reminder, we recently organized a group of more than 1,800 Americans, including 1,400 lawyers, to call for the nomination of civil rights leaders like Perez and Ho. We see Schumer’s recommendations as a commitment to diversifying the ranks of the Federal judiciary in promoting underrepresented groups and civil rights lawyers.

“We applaud Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s leadership in recommending these two voting and civil rights leaders to important federal judgeships,” said Vice President of Policy and Strategic Engagement Adam Fernandez. “Perez and Ho’s dedication to civil rights and their expertise makes them uniquely qualified to hold these federal judgeships. We hope the Biden Administration will act quickly in announcing their nominations, and that other Senators will follow Senator Schumer’s lead in recommending future nominees with extensive civil rights experience.”
