Worried about reproductive justice, LGBTQ+ rights, civil and human rights? Join our first-ever cohort of legal advocates to become an agent of change in your own state.

In August 2022, L4GG will be launching the State Legislative Advocacy Academy, a first-of-its-kind training series for lawyers and law students to learn how to use their unique skills and privilege to influence public policy in their home states.

Individuals who complete our 10-part Academy series will have the opportunity to apply to become a part of the L4GG State Advocacy Leadership Program, which will provide ongoing support on specific legislative issues and provide opportunities for collaboration with on-the-ground advocacy groups in your home state.

To express interest in the Academy and receive details and more information, please fill out the form below.

The State Legislative Advocacy Academy is comprised of a mix of substantive law and training on soft skills necessary to influence the legislative process. Modules will teach topics such as:

  • how state legislatures work;

  • how to get meetings with your legislators;

  • the importance of state legislative committees and how to impact their processes;

  • getting local media coverage;

  • how to build and mobilize a coalition for change;

  • and more.

The State Legislative Advocacy Academy is led by Director of Attorney Impact and Engagement, LaTonya Joyner-Gregory. Prior to joining L4GG, LaTonya was the Founder and Principal of Evergreen Advocacy Consulting, LLC, a government relations firm that specialized in social justice advocacy and facilitated customized advocacy trainings to advance her clients’ efforts – most notably in the area of immigrants’ rights. LaTonya has also served as a Policy Analyst for Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia, and there, she provided legislators and government agencies with information and analysis on how to improve access to reproductive health care. Prior to that, she worked as a Public Benefits Staff Attorney for the Virginia Poverty Law Center and served as the inaugural Director of its anti-hunger initiative, Virginia Hunger Solutions.

LaTonya earned her JD from the University of Maryland School of Law and holds a BA in Political Science from the University of Richmond.
